Fragile Earth series

This body of work is a direct response to the fragility of our planet – and the beauty of it; contrasting landscapes - comparing similarities as well as differences.

Fragile Earth is an ongoing body of work, it now includes a soundscape, small paintings in acrylic and oil, water colour studies and large oil, acrylic and sand paintings.

Works on paper

These small colour studies developed my way of seeing the landscape in detailed, yet with simplicity too. They are gouache on paper, produced on location in Symi, Greece; Arran, Scotland amd Goa, India. They led to the small paintings, which in turn led to other work in this series.

Small paintings

These small oil and acrylic paintings take colours and textures of the landscapes of England, Scotland and India. I used a mixture of oil, acrylic, transparency, sand from the locations and cement. The materials are chosen to disintegrate in certain areas.

Larger paintings

Continuing the series comes some large paintings on canvas, 60 x 75cm, using acrylic and oil paints and sand and earth from the locations.

Soundscape

In May 2008 I took part in a group walk along the River Bovey, Devon. The other eleven participants were all artists, and we made our response to the walk over the following 5 months. The work was then exhibited in Bovey Tracey, Devon.
My response was a soundscape, 12 minutes long, and 4 paintings I chose to include under my Fragile Earth series.
